Set in the heart of the old Empire, the island Yyreth, also home to the ancient Elven Kingdom. Once the Empire was a significant power, controlling the seas and large areas of nearby continents. Over the centuries the Empire has decayed and it is now a shadow of it's former self.
Relations between the Empire and the Kingdom have always been friendly, until some 100 years ago. The then Elven prince, and future heir to the Elven throne, was sent (with his mother) to the Empire's capital, Athale, to be brought up in the Empire's Court. The intention being that he would marry the Emperor's daughter, joining the Empire and the Kingdom forever. That wasn't to be, with the prince's party being ambushed and slaughtered.
The drow were blamed for the attack, partly because no trace of the attackers was ever found. The young prince's body was never recovered, though the sword that was destined to be his was, and has been mouldering at the back of the Emperor's personal armoury ever since.
Relations between the Empire and the Kingdom are finally improving. The young Elven princess has finally come of age, and the Emperor's son is due to come of age. Both sides have agreed to complete the process begun over 100 years earlier. A date has been set and a wedding is being planned.
The island of Yyreth
Central-West Yyreth (where most of the action seems to take place)
Kord - fighter/ranger multiclass. Known as Kord 3 Swords for his habit of frequenting houses of ill repute.
Americ - fighter/wizard multiclass. The “missing” Elven prince who’s now out to eliminate the Drow from the face of the planet.
Bayne (dead) - rogue/wizard multiclass. Died at the hands of a sorcerer who cast Disintegrate.
Ly-Rissa (sidelined) - cleric/druid multiclass. Currently residing partly in an axe, as part of the mateiral components used to enchant it.
Amaera - fighter/bard multiclass. Recently joined the party, seeking a friend who was taken by the Drow.
As an intro to ADnD third edition another person ran an intro campaign, in which I played. This assembled a small party, who traced the source of some pollution and resolved the problem (well, blew up the mountain - how was my Ranger to know the barrels were highly flammable :>). The events here carry on from that mission.
Having saved the mill in Kaldar by destroying the source of pollution the party were at a loose end. Fate stepped in, in the form of a raiding party from the local mountains. The party assisted the residents in repelling this raid, but not before much of the town was damaged and many had lost their lives. In the aftermath they were approached by a local merchant, to recover a stolen family heirloom.
The party set off on the trail of the raiders. In the process they were captured by the drow, and set loose, along with another prisoner - an old man, as game for the drow's servants. They managed to elude their hunters, killing many of them along the way. The old man left one night, unseen by the party. Shortly afterwards they met a stranger, who joined the party.
With the aid of their new member they rested and re-equipped. Newly prepared they returned to the drow stronghold. Discovering huge caches of weapons and armour they set about causing as much chaos as they could, still hunting for the heirloom. Eventually they discovered it lying upon an alter to some evil deity. After a struggle they recovered it and left the stronghold, freeing a prisoner along the way. This prisoner assisted their escape, joining their party.
Returning to Kaldar the party discovered it burned to the ground, the bodies lying rotting in the river. Moving on to Sea Haven they alerted the authorities and set on to Turet.
In Turet they had a minor incident involving undead and what appeared to be a dark temple. Dealing in part with this they also spent some time researching the staff they had recovered. This turned out to be an item called the Dragon Staff, thought lost. It's powers were not documented, but it was certainly an artifact of some form (as one of the party's mages discovered when he cast Detect Magic on it). A trip to Athale was interrupted by "rescuing" a party of gnomes from attacking half-orcs and humans. Sadly it transpired that the attackers were the good ones, the gnomes transporting a vampire, various poisons and a large quantity of fake gems and coins. This of course was discovered the hard way, by being captured by the gnomes. Having freed themselves they investigated the contents of a Bag of Holding, freeing the vampire and his skeleton servants. They also discovered a pouch protected by high level death magic.
Having escaped that problem, they took the fake gems and coins, along with the pouch, to Athale, attempting to trace the recipients of these items. Sadly the opposition was one step ahead and escaped with the pouch. Along the way the party was questioned over a breakin and one member of the party tried to run, having a history (including a charge of murder hanging over his head). After some time in jail and a trial he was found not guilty of the murder of the Baron Kedrim's nephew.
Ok, I was lazy and didn’t update for ages, I’ll fill this in in time, honest.
Summary: Bad times have been happening to the party. Somebody is obviously out to get them from behind the scenes. Two members of the party have died and not been able to be raised. Familiars have been killed and people have been trying to kill those close to the party.
The party now finds itself resting in Athale, trying to work out what to do next. That they will return to the dungeon is certain, Americ is unlikely to let the Drow that taunted him survive. However with no meaningful clerical support their options are limited. They’re also significantly under strength for dealing with the opposition they have encountered.
